The Role
The JPMorgan Summer Internship program is extraordinary well-organized and both HR and the teams are taking care of the interns. The best thing is the effort they put in education and Teach-Ins, Courses, Trade Ideas, Trading Game and PNL computation etc, where you can actually learn concrete features.
My team spent a lot of time on trying to make me evolve, assuring that I got the right feedback of each of my project, following my objectives, making me meet as many person as I could.
My team and other support team never told me that they didn't had time for me.
I was extremely busy, but I think it was a good thing. Each morning, I took 2hours to summarize the overnight news, compute key levels and find best opportunities for the day. On an Exotic Trading desk, you tend to forget the macroeconomic environment and this was the perfect way for me to stay in touch. Then I had project for my team (very technical) and projects for the Credit Co-Chair, which was a perfect balance to understand all products traded on the Global Credit (from Syndication, via Index options to AT1 or Tranches products).
I really had a lot to handle, my team executed a lot of trades I was pushing, I presented projects in front of 30 Senior people, they let me build tools to price clients' request without really checking once they knew I was reliable...
I really grew in technicality and communication. I learned how to manage my time and extract the most of people when I went speak to them.
The Company
Extremely nice and kind, but tough and fair sometimes.
Best organisation I ever saw in a firm, everyone was aware of my projects, my schedule, my concerns, my upcoming presentations etc
As they believe they could hire me straight after the internship they almost treated me like an Analyst, always proposing to grab lunch together, pushing me a lot, taking weekly meetings to teach complicated products etc.
Company Parties/Events
Pushing me a lot on other desks as they couldn't take me straight away. Introducing me as the best intern they ever had...
The Culture
We were aware there were head counts for everyone and no competition was reining.
Canary wharf is quite cheap for eating, but canteen and pubs were super expensive
2 parties organized by HR but a lot of work, so not that much time to party!
Yes, the Corporate Challenge, Step Up for Hunger, Women Networks etc.
