The Role
I really enjoyed the internship- we were treated very well by the company and I went to a wide variety of clients and saw lots of different stages of the audit process
Everyone was really friendly and made an effort to get to know me/take me for coffee and lunch etc and make me feel like part of the team. People would always thank me for the help that I had given them and the work that I had done.
Generally, I had a lot of support and guidance, however occasionally I felt a bit like I had been 'thrown in the deep end' with manages sometimes forgetting I had only been with the company for a few weeks!
It varied from job to job, and generally speaking, although I was not over worked I always had something to do and keep me busy.
Again, this varied depending on the team I was working with and the tasks that needed completing, but I was often completing whole sections of the audit myself and dealing directly with clients.
Really useful- I learned so much about accounting and auditing which I would not have been able to find out just from my degree. Even if I had decided that auditing wasn't for me, the IT skills and teamwork skills would be really useful in any future job
The Company
Good- everyone was serious and hard working but at the same time everyone was really nice and capable of having a laugh!
Very well organised- we had an induction day at a hotel to introduce us to the scheme and to the other people on the internship, and this was followed by an introduction to our department and our buddy on the second day, We were told exactly what jobs we were booked on and when for the duration of our internship. Although we were all working in different areas, the recruitment team kept in touch with us throughout, updating us on anything we needed to know about with regards to interviews etc.
On the first day, we had a session which explained the basics of auditing and accounting to us, and prepared us for the weeks ahead.

Very-after my experience on this placement I would really like to work for KPMG full time
The Culture
Yes- we were all working on separate jobs, so I didn't really see any of the other interns during working hours, however we had an induction at a hotel on the first day where we got to meet all the other interns working on all service lines. Although this was the only social event aimed specifically at interns that KPMG organised officially, we were all given eachothers KPMG email addresses and were able to organise events among ourselves.
I was able to live at home so living costs were not an issue for me. As it is London, a lot of the other interns found that the accommodation was relatively expensive compared to other cities, however, given that the placement was paid, I think everyone was easily able to find somewhere that they could afford! Socializing in venues such as bars and clubs is also relatively high, however given the salary, it is definitely still affordable!
It was good- there are a lot of bars in and around the office at Canary Wharf. We didn,t really go clubbing too much, but there are a lot of clubs in central London and in the area around the office
Good- its London so there is a lot of choice of clubs and bars.
