The Role
I really enjoyed my time at BW, the work was varied and interesting (for the most part), and everyone went out of their way to make me feel welcome.
I felt as if the work that I did contributed to the team, and I felt as if they valued my input and the work that I put in. I was involved in numerous different projects and had a real impact on all of them.
Everything was very clear cut, and I knew exactly what I was doing from the very first week that I was there. If I had any problems my mentor and supervisor (or even other intern's mentors) were happy to help and show me what I was meant to be doing.
I was as busy as I let myself be (which was generally quite busy). There was a list of tasks that they wanted done over the course of the internship so if I was ever short of work I could ask someone and they would give me one of those tasks. Every week there was a catch up where the status of my work was noted down, and I could either asks for more or less work depending on how busy I was at the time. This lead to a good balance of busyness and not being overwhelmed.
Along with the other interns, I was given the responsibility of taking a project from start to finish over the course of the summer, which is a lot of responsibility. Also, I worked frequently on client work, and it was very important that I got that right, so the responsibility was very high.
The time management skills that I have learned over the course of my internship will help immensely in my future studies. That is the main thing that I take away from the internship, as they have never been particularly strong. I have learned how to more efficiently manage my time so that large deadlines and more immediate deadlines are all met.
The Company
The office is very friendly, quite quiet (which is nice) and everyone is very approachable and willing to help. There is a feeling that everyone is getting on with their work, but there are certainly the occasional bursts of conversation and laughter to keep the atmosphere far from being dull.
There was a structured plan for the internship and I think we slotted into it quite nicely. They knew exactly what training we were going to be given and when, and the exercises were merged with the training in such a way that we were never unprepared for an exercise before it came along. The type of work we were given also followed the training, so that we weren't unprepared for any piece of work.
There were a lot of very interesting training sessions and the chance to work on our own project really developed our own skills.
Company Parties/Events
The Culture
There was a very active social/sports scene at least once a week.
London is very expensive, fortunately I live at home so I can't comment on rent.
Lots of social/sports events
