The Role
At first I felt out of my depth as this was the first big, important and full time job I ever had. At the start it is scary to get used to juggle so many projects and trying to remember faces. But it is a very exciting company who like to move very fast.
Everyone is really friendly here. The only downside is everyone is very busy. However they will easily give you the time of day when they can. And they are all willing to help. In particular my manager is one of the nicest people I have met. She is very support and myself and her have a lot in common and she understands exactly how I felt and what I was going through at the begining
As previously stated my Manager is very supportive!!
At the very begining I wasn't that busy because it was a case of introductions to applications and to people. So a lot of the time was spent reading. However now I am getting more and more work so its getting busier (I am currently 2months into the placement)
You are given projects to manage by yourself. That is a lot of responsibility. However even though it is your project if you need help people will help you. But it is still your descision on how to do things and take control.
In terms of application support, it has given me a lot of knowlegde in applications that a lot of businesses use but I have not heard of like SharePoint for example. My business knowlegde before coming to this company was limited but it has helped to expand this knowlegde. I'm sure in the next 10months I will gain even more knowlegde.
The Company
Jokes are always being made and people enjoying themselves. But at the same time when work needs to be done, it gets done.
I feel this could have been improved but however I had a month hand over period from the pervious student so things were stretched out. If it had been the normal two weeks then I am sure this will have been far better.
At the moment I have had little offical training. I have been training by my colleagues. However like I have stated I only started two months ago.
Subsidised Canteen
International Travel
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Working from home
If I were to live around there officies I would deffiantly apply for a job here.
The Culture
I have mingled with a lot of students that are on graduate programs but in my department (IS) there is only one placement student and that is me.
I moved to Slough and found a very cheap place to live. However I think it depends on where you decided to live and what arrangements. I choose to live in slough because it was only a 15min walk to work. And I choose a small studio to live in.
In Slough the nightlife is limited. But everyone goes to Windsor which is about 10mins away from Slough. Or there is always the choice of a small communite into London, the trains run till very late to get back to Slough
As of yet no, only socialising. But again I only started two months ago.
