The Role
I undertook 2 rotations in Citi's Capital Markets teams which allowed me to gain a great deal of exposure to different products. The tasks we were set were intellectually stimulating and the atmosphere with colleagues was very friendly. The only downside came on quiet days where you may not have a lot to do
Colleagues were exceptionally helpful and welcoming and more than willing to answer any questions. Before long I was being given high value tasks would be sent out to various clients. Colleagues were happy to pass on additional work once you had demonstrated that you were capable
Management and Supervisors were friendly and offered their support. At times the delegation of responsibilities was murky and not all tasks were explained as individuals were out of the office
Business could range from being bored to being a bit too busy. Generally speaking the balance was there but I felt there were a few too many days of limited activity that could have been better utilised with additional tasks
Significant responsibilities ranging from working on active pitches to market updates to over 300 individuals
Having graduated it cannot assist these skills but I certainly feel the skills would have helped in the final year. Going forward the skills will be beneficial if I look to pursue a career in banking or other industries that require similar MO skills.
The Company
Good atmosphere with colleagues willing to joke around with each other. Much more relaxed than I expected with people happy for you to go to the gym during the day if quiet
A change in personnel led to some miscommunication over certain projects.
Provided generic training tasks but limited individual training which was mostly gained through experience
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
A relatively high conversion ratio at a time when they were looking to increase their headcount
The Culture
Interns willing to socialise every Friday and some weeks more. Also across divisions
London prices (Canary Wharf) but not as bad as I expected
Nightlife limited but surrounding areas excellent
Plenty of opportunities that could be better advertised
