The Role
Even with the hours that are inherent in this industry, the internship was extremely enjoyable from start to end.
I never felt like i was just an intern... I was always encouraged to offer an opinion and that gives you value.
Despite my manager being very senior, he always put time aside in his day for me to ask any questions and to check progress/give guidance on my internship project.
For the 2 weeks after my project I wish I was more involved in the day-to-day work but because it was a quiet period with a lot of people on holiday, there was little for me to do. However, before the end I was occupied with my project.
Some of the interns were given whole reports to be responsible for, but I didn't have the chance to work on one as a whole - just contribute graphs from my project and I felt like I could handle more responsibility.
The time management/organisation/work ethic that developed over the internship will be extremely useful for my final Uni year and the knowledge that I have accumulated over the process is invaluable for the future.
The Company
Everyone respects each other and managers let everyone get on with what they are doing, but the atmosphere wasn't too serious.
HR did a fantastic job over the 9 weeks.
A lot of time was spent on training us and developing our 'personal brand'
Subsidised Canteen
Very
The Culture
Good social scene
UBS provided a list of recommended places to stay and once you've searched them all to find the cheapest one, given what you get paid the cost of living was not high at all.
Average.
As part of the internship there was a community service day. Also, there was the option of getting involved in sporting events.
