The Role
I really enjoyed my time at Savills- an active social scene; really welcoming and friendly teams; plenty of work to get on with; really good group of interns; opportunities to play for sports teams.
I was given a fair amount of responsibility from early on in the internship with imminent deadlines, which I feel has given me a good representative period of on-the-job experience.
I was given guidance whenever required. After a brief initial discussion about the work they had given me, no more discussions were had unless I came across any difficulties. But the team were all approachable and relatively familiar with the work I had been given, so were able to offer assistance whenever necessary
I was very busy throughout the period, which did not appear to be the case for the interns across all of the teams, perhaps owing to the nature of the team I was in and their type of work as opposed to the other team's operations.
As much as was feasible and appropriate given my lack of experience and the client-side nature of the majority of their work.
The property industry is quite different to most of other industries- interpersonal skills are fundamental and thus assist you in your day-to-day life perhaps more than in your studies. However, the precision and accuracy that all of the team's work represented will be the thing I try to take to my studies. Achieving a consistently high standard of work was necessary for the team in which I was placed, given the fact 90% of their work was from previous clients and their associates.
The Company
Very positive in general, despite their impending deadlines.
The internship was very well organised, with several social activities lined up as well as departmental overviews to give a more rounded experience of the firm as a whole.
I feel the firm did invest a great deal into us; we received a speech from the CFO, and were made to feel very welcome by all. I felt that the process was very much a mutual one.
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
I will definitely be applying in October.
The Culture
Yes- we went out each Thursday and had lunch together most days,
Being in central London, the price of everything was significant but there were a few places around the office that offered food for a more reasonable and accessible price.
Again, being in central London, the nightlife was as good as you wanted it to be. The prices were high, though.
There were opportunities to play for the firm's sports teams, weekly if you wished.
