The Role
The internship was thoroughly enjoyable, everyday presented a new challange and opportunity to learn.
I felt extremely valued by my colleagues. I was always involved in conversations between the team out on audit and always asked for my opinion on the subject. Furthermore, the work I was given was always relevant and meaningful.
The support I was given throughout my internship was fantastic. I had a mid-term review and final review meeting during my internship with my line manager. However, every single person was approachable and welcome you to ask them any question you have.
I was busy but in a positive way. The days never seemed to go slow as I always had a task to be getting on with. At points I had more than one task to complete for a number of colleagues so time management was essential. However, it also meant that if you needed a break from one task you could switch to another.
I was given a lot of responsibility. More or less straight away I was talking to clients and gathering relevant information. Also I produced my own work papers which contributed to sections of the audit.
During my internship I improved a lot of my skills. My presentation skills have definitely improved and I have a presentation to perform as part of my final year project. Also I am much more proficient in excel which is something I have used throughout my degree. Furthermore, the interpersonal and professional skills I learnt will be something I can take with me throughout my career.
The Company
The office atmosphere was great to work in. In the audit department you can sit at any desk in the office. Every employee is approachable and happy to help with any work you require help with.
The internship is extremely well organised. A two day presentation course is planned for you at Bradenham Manor which is fantastic. You are placed onto jobs just like every other employee and follow this on a internal system.
The two-day presentation course illustrates the investment the firm made in me during a six week placement. All expenses and accommodation were paid for and the course was extremely beneficial.
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
The employment prospects within Grant Thornton are endless. I feel although if you put the work in the structure is there within the company for you to be rewarded.
The Culture
the graduates and school leavers created a vibrant social scene within the company. There was a number of events organised and there would always be people going for a drink on a Friday after work.
The office is right in the centre of Leeds so bars are slightly more expensive than in other areas but still affordable.
Leeds has an excellent nightlife for young professionals.
I believe there are possibilities to be involved in a number of sporting teams within the company. During my time there I know there was a cricket team which people could play in. However, there was always events being organised such as trips to the races and barbecue days.
