The Role
I learned a huge amount about the industry and the work that my department do on a daily basis, and definitely developed a better understanding of my own career goals and personal skills.
I was surprised by how friendly all the staff at Citi are - whether they know you or not! I did not expect to be taken under peoples' wing so much as I was, and I greatly appreciate the time that people took out of their day to help me learn and progress.
Unfortunately, responsibility for our intern class changed between 3 HR contacts over the course of the internship due to personnel changes and as a result we sometimes found ourselves lacking guidance. However, I realise that this was a one-off situation where circumstances could not have been avoided. Otherwise, the management/supervision was great - very thorough and personal.
Considering the long hours (this is not a typical 9-5 job!) I enjoyed the steady flow of work. There were moments of extreme quiet and times of high stress, but mostly a steady workflow due to the time of year.
I found that I was trusted with a lot more responsibility than I was expecting! This is not a coffee-serving, fax-machine-working kind of internship! I was frequently communicating with senior staff in and out of my department and liaising on joint projects.
I graduated from university at the beginning of my internship, but the lessons/skills I've learned will be invaluable to any career that I could imagine taking on.
The Company
Very sociable, but there are periods of high intensity workflow where there is not much time for socialising. Someone or other always had a box of Krispy Kreme's to give out, and it's very easy to initiate conversations with even the most senior staff members, regardless of whether you've met before or not.
As I mentioned before, I fell into a group of interns who got a bit tangled up in shifts in the HR personnel responsible for us, which corrupted the organisation a little. However, the general process is easy to navigate and there is always someone to ask for clarification; HR and the management of specific departments are very approachable and eager to answer your questions.
I felt like a valued member of staff from day one, and always found that people are more than happy to help you develop your skills and experience.

Company Parties/Events
I don't know yet, but if I were to get a full-time job offer I would 100% take it up!
The Culture
HR organises several big events - unrelated to work - with both the other interns and with the company/department as a whole. Also, the interns tend to take the initiative to organise their own social events.
London is notoriously expensive.
As above, London is expensive. But, that said, there is something for everyone.
As an intern, you're too busy to really take much up outside work after the 10-14hr days, but the opportunities are certainly there!
