The Role
This is my first summer placement (10 weeks) with Costain. I worked in the Power sector on the Overhead Power Lines upgrading and maintenance project. I feel that it went really well and I really enjoyed the activities that I was involved in over the course of the placement.
People on the project are very approachable, easy to talk to and you instantly become part of the team,
Regular catch-up conversations with my line manager, a lot of support and useful tips.
It was a full working day Mon to Fri but most days there were a lot of tasks, visits to keep you occupied so the time flies.
I was given a fair number of responsibilities. It was reasonable for the first placement but I hope I will have more next year.
I gained a lot of knowledge about those sort of projects and also a good deal of technical knowledge which will come in handy next year at university.
The Company
Everyone was focused on doing their work so it is a comfortable place to work but there is also a good bit of fun at times as it is a fairly small office and everyone knows each other.
I still have 3 years of university so slightly early to be thinking about a job but I feel I will be a good candidate for a graduate position after getting even more knowledge and experience through placements and university.
