The Role
Very much, as it had a healthy mix of training, guidance and challenge.
I felt very much a part of the team throughout the internship, evidenced by the volume and variety of work that came my way.
My supervisors and colleagues readily responded to the questions I asked, and as the internship progressed, I felt I could see more tasks through from start to finish.
Very busy, particularly given that the actuarial team in the office at which I was based is relatively small.
The level of responsibility increased as the internship progressed. Throughout my placement, I was also assessed on how well I balanced chargeable work with non-chargeable work.
The internship has given me a very good sense of the breadth and rigor of pensions actuarial work. This alongside my experience of studying for the profession’s exams has showed me the necessary practical skill-set and work ethic that make for a productive actuary. I now have a better-informed commitment to qualifying and working as an actuary.
The Company
Friendly and very focused on the jobs at hand.
It was very well set up, with a focus on learning the job through client work, alongside other tasks to be assessed. The 8 weeks were also punctuated with a mid-internship review and another at the end of the period.
Significantly.
Very appealing, provided the intern, over the 8 weeks, shows that they merit a full-time position with the firm.
The Culture
Yes, with a sports tournament, wine-tasting and drinks after work.
Reasonable.
I didn't explore this, as my evenings were often taken up with study for the actuarial exams I have coming up.
A few.
