The Role
I Thoroughly enjoyed this internship as I was given the opportuity to work on a wide range of different jobs and tasks. All of the staff were very accomodating and it was a great environment to make a start to my career. There was also a good level of work available that helped develop my skills and build my confidence in tackling the more interesting but harder tasks.
All of my colleagues were very freindly and very helpful in explaining the tasks that I was required to do. I was always given time and attention if there was anything that I needed guidance on and generally the work I did was appreciated by my colleagues. You do get the sense that you are part of the team when you are working on each different job and all the work that I completed was used and uploaded on to the file.
There was always support available and the work was always well explained. It is a great environment to gain confidence as well as experience, mainly due to the friendly nature of everyone I met at the firm.
The balance of work was great. At the beginning of each week I was set out several different tasks and as those were completed it was easy to ask for more work to keep me occupied. There was never an occasion where I found myself put under stress due to having too much work to complete.
I did not expect the amount of responsibility that I was given. Once I had a grasp of the tasks I was able to speak with the clients dirrectly in order to resolve any issues that came up. On one occasion I was out on a client on my own and it was great to have that responsibility, especially right from the start.
Over 8 weeks I developed some vital skills and knowledge that will be useful in all walks of life. These include things such as meeting and discussing issues with clients, and also a good understanding of business terminology and how business' opperate. I also developed some more specific skills related to Audit which, as I am seeking a career in this field, will be really helpful going forward. The 8 week internship gives the opportunity to develop ideas about a future career also.
The Company
There was always a very positive atmosphere in the office and client sites that I worked at. Everyone is very friendly and helpful if you have any queries. The people that I have worked with were engaging in conversation and took an interest in what I was doing. Otherwise it is a professional environment that gives good experience for my future career.
It was well set up with work planned for me right up to the end. You are given a performance manager who you are able to contact if you have any issues. The recruitment for the internship is well run and the company are very good at getting back to you quickly.
There was one induction day where all of the interns are given an insight into what it is they will be doing. After that it is very much learning on the job but with everything explained so clearly on the day and everyone so happy to help this is not an issue.
Subsidised Canteen
Having done this internship I only have to go through one more interview with a partner. Also I have been able to make goof contacts within the organisation which could be helpful in the future. I would be very happy to work for this firm again.
The Culture
In the office that I was in there were no other interns which was a little disapointing but there are many young people in the firm that were very friendly and sociable.
I lived at home and so this isnt relevant to me. Having said that I did get the opportunity to eat out a couple of times and the area is not too expensive.
I did not live in the area that I worked in and so didn't get the opportunity to go out in the evenings in this area.
There were opportunities to get involved in several activities outside of work, such as volly ball and socials after work.
