The Role
I enjoyed it as I was in an environment I have never experienced before and had to use existing skills in ways I didn't envision them being useful, as well as learning a lot about the structure and process of an organisation of this size.
I felt very valued by my colleagues as they frequently gave me responsibility and were willing to take me on board with their projects and day-to-day tasks.
I was always able to ask my colleagues for guidance and my managers for advice, and they were very open and honest with their responses.
Fairly busy - I had a lot of work to do but I was able to plan and organise my own project so I achieved a good balance.
I was running the show as I was given my own project to plan, develop and work on, by myself, enlisting the help of colleagues when necessary and regularly reporting to managers.
I learnt what it was like to work in a professional competitive software development environment and was able to practice a lot of technical skill which should help me a lot in my degree in future.
The Company
My office was lively and open, people frequently starting conversations and discussions.
It was very well organised and very quick to adapt as when I started I suggested I would like to do more technical work so my manager quickly planned an entirely different course of action for me over my time here to suit my request, and it all worked seamlessly from there.
Whilst I wasn't given much hands-on training, there were plenty of opportunities to learn and grow and I was able to set up meetings and ask people about a variety of things within the company.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Financial Bonus
I would definitely like to come back to work here!
The Culture
Whilst many interns were all over the place, we did have a few events to meet up and I was able to keep in touch with interns who I had met or worked in my office quite well!
I live in the area I worked anyway so there was no real cost difference to me.
Some good pubs nearby.
We had a very big charity challenge that was entirely outside work and very involving!
