The Role
I was surprised at how much I did enjoy my placement. I thought that I wouldn't really be given much work but that was not the case in slightest. Right from the outset, I was given plenty of work to do and everyone was really helpful at talking me through what it was that I was doing. I was also given exposure to clients right from the very first job I was on which provided a real insight into what a first year graduate would be doing. I was also booked to an away job in London in my third week which allowed me to experience what working away for a week or so would be like.
I definitely felt valued by my colleagues: they trusted me to perform various audit tests with minimal supervision. I was also invited to join the KPMG netball team by one of the school leavers. Whilst on my placement, I was also invited to attend a social at York Races which was really enjoyable and allowed me to experience the social side of the office.
I was certainly impressed with the amount of support and guidance I was provided with on my 8 week placement at KPMG. Everyone I worked with was always more than happy to talk me through tasks and help me understand the work I was doing.
I was usually kept relatively busy when out at client sites. However, when in the office, without being booked to a specific job, I would sometimes find myself with not all that much to do.
I was given a fair amount of responsibilty: I was trusted to communicate with clients and prepare various workpapers all the way throughout my placement.
My communciation and teamwork skills have been greatly refined. This will help me with the final year of my degree and these skills will also be useful when I start a graduate scheme in 2015.
The Company
It was fairly relaxed and everybody was happy to help out if I had any questions about the work I was doing.
It was well organised although sometimes I would find myself in the office with not all that much work to do.
They invested lots of time in; everyone was always very helpful in explaining and guiding me with tasks.

Very appealing. After a short Partner interview following the placement, I hope to gain a place on the graduate scheme.
The Culture
It was ok, there were four of us interns in middle markets audit and we arranged ourselves to go for drinks a couple of times. I went to one organised social which was the trip to York Races.
I lived in my student house so it was the same as when I am at uni.
The nightlife in Leeds was really good.
There was the opportunity to get involved with the races and had I been available, I would have played a few netball matches.
