The Role
As my placement was 10 weeks long I really enjoyed my work 2-3 weeks in when I started to increase my responsibilities and understanding of the work, but as have only had a short placement, the workload and responsibilities given to me lessened and I had very little to fill the days in my last two weeks.
I really got along with everyone I worked with, considering I only had a short time there I feel I got to know some colleagues I worked closely with really well but simply didn't have enough time to form friendship with others
Depending on the job at hand, sometimes I had all the guidance needed and other times I was left completely to my own devices. Staff are all friendly and helpful enough to try and help if you ask bit sometimes I had guidance issues simply because the right person wasn't available when I needed them.
The work load was definitely not balanced throughout my placement, as said above towards the beginning and end of my placement I struggled to find useful tasks to fill my day, whereas in the middle of my placements I had a manageable but heavy workload, which was good for experience to have that but I sometimes had to do over 1 hour overtime and or work through my lunch to keep up.
I felt a big part of my team and I had plenty of ownership over the tasks given purely to me. Given the fact I wouldn't have had enough time to gain the in depth knowledge of the department required to take on more responsibility, I couldn't have asked for much more on that front
I have gained or practiced plenty of skills I think would be transferable From internship in the real work I did. The only thing I found mainly useless to me is I did mock interviews and mock presentations to get feedback from on my placement, whereas this is the type of thing I can get regularly as experience from uni's skills for work, it's being able to do actual hands on work it found useful to me
The Company
All staff were really friendly and it was a friendly chatty atmosphere which was good, it was nice to work with people with big personalities, also lots of charity and fun events going off in my time there under colleague engagement was good. Only minor to the atmosphere was peoples dissatisfaction with how strictly they are managed.
Only problem I had with the internship was the lack of work towards the beginning and end, otherwise it was organised really well
The main investment was training on the job which I think was the best way, not much useful other than that though.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
National Travel
Depending on the job on offer I would definitely consider a career in Lloyds and inthe centre I worked at
The Culture
I was placed In Sheffield due to home circumstances so I was not in the same place as any other scholars so only saw them a couple of times at meetings, an intern also worked at my centre though and we had good chats in work.
I lived at home during my placement and live in Sheffield so very reasonable, only slight grumble would be £3/ day parking
Did not go on any nights out near my placement as I am from Sheffield so I just went to my usual places I.e local pub
Nothing I can think of offered due to the placement, things to do in local area though
