About You
I really loved the staff at Taylor Wessing, they were all equally friendly and always made time to see how I was doing. Also, I really enjoyed the sector I worked in and was surprised at how much the staff respected and appreciated my ideas which I brought forwardto improve certain aspects of the conpany.
Everyone made me feel welcome straight away as I was introduced to everybody on the first day of my internship. Also, I loved the fact that I was treated as an adult and was never patronised. In addition, the staff always checked on me to see if I was alright and generally cared about my views and aspirations which helped me feel automatically comfortable in my environment.
I liked the amount of independence I was given during the placement as it helped me experience more of a work place environment as opposed to school. However if I needed any help or guidance, the staff explained clearly what I had to do.
I learned so many skills during my placement. Firstly I improved my presentation skills as I was given many opportunities to present my ideas to the staff and to fellow students of the tommorows talent programme. Secondly, this also improved my communication skills as I was able to present my views effectively. In addition, I also improved my organisation skills as I had to complete work before deadlines given to me.
The Company
The insight was structured very well. There was never a point that I was unsure about what I had to do. I also liked the variety of tasks I was given so I was never bored. I also like the fact we were given a clear time table of the week at the start of the week so we always knew where to go and what to do.
The atmosphere was great. Everyone always made time for me and I could tell there was absolutely no divide or hierarchy scale created based on different people's jobs which I deem to be rare in a work place- even the caterers were treated with the utmost respect.
The firm invested so much time in my placement which I really appreciated as I know Taylor Wessing is a really busy environment with always a lot to do. They also made sure to brief us about Taylor Wessing and more about Law in order to help us feel more confident in trying to reach our future aspirations.
I think if the placement was longer I would definitely have got a greater insight into how a full time role with the firm would be yet with the time given, I believe I received the best insight possible.
I learnt a lot about the companys culture such as the fact they try really hard to increase diversity in leadership roles. For example, the firm has a women's mentoring scheme which aims to improve gender equality in the work place.
it was incredibly helpful as firstly I wanted to be a barrister but after the placement I am definitely considering becoming a solicitor as I understand more about what their role in comparison to a barrister's role.
Everything Else
My travel expenses were paid for but I was not paid for the placement. I would have never expected to even be imbursed for travel as the placement was such a great privilege to me that many people would pay to have.
Near the end of the week, a long period was set aside particularly for a networking event. This was a great opportunity to talk to more professional people, ask questions and make contacts for the future.
They were great. The following week, a celebration event was arranged for all the students which some snacks and the Nintendo wii was set out for us.
Not really but I guess there wasn't much time to really delve into other areas of the company.
Definitely without a doubt, I have learnt so much during the insight and it's been really great having insight into a professional environment.
