    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • The Bootcamp was an amazing way to experience what it is like to be part of Bloomberg and the people I met were both genuine and helpful. The lectures and info sessions were very informative and the participants amazingly friendly.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • We were allowed unlimited snacks, fresh fruit, coffee, tea and beverages from the pantry - very cool! Although we only received temporary passes we were strongly encouraged to walk around the building and approach employees. I found this very welcoming.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • Our two mentors N and J (you know who you are!) were really friendly and were committed full-time to organising our programme during the week. Any questions we had we could just go up to them and ask. Very helpful and approachable!

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Deep knowledge acquired of the different functions of the terminal for such a short amount of time - it was literally a bootcamp!

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Very well structured and diverse - we even had Mark Barton (Bloomberg TV morning anchor) come to talk with us! Next to terminal based talks (where Bloomberg LP earns 85% of its profits), we had exposure to every division imaginable in the company: Bloomberg Businessweek & Pursuits magazine, Bloomberg Industry Intelligence research division and Bloomberg News!

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Bloomberg's culture I think is very unique in the finance industry - it seems like a very energetic and fun place to work! We even discussed this with fellow participants and arrived at the conclusion that it is very important to be a "people person" at the company! As you are approaching customers (whether physically or through the internal messaging system called IB) all day, it is essential that you are warm and friendly!

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • HR came down to give us an exclusive talk on how to present ourselves in an interview, and how to use LinkedIn effectively. As these sessions were very useful in other career ventures as well, they showed a genuine commitment to training from Bloomberg's part. I greatly appreciated these sessions.

    5/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • After this week I think I have a better understanding of Bloomberg's business, but a summer internship would be even more helpful in this regard.

    5/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Amazingly helpful! It is difficult to really get an idea of a company from looking at brochures and websites - an insight week is a truly treasured opportunity to do this!

    5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Very helpful - I filled up two notebooks with my notes!

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Not paid nor reimbursed expenses.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • The speakers who came down to speak with us all stressed the fact that we could visit them any time at their desks during the week. Moreover, there was also a work shadowing opportunity of ADSK (Bloomberg Analytics). Finally the programme wrapped up with networking drinks on Friday!

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • Networking drinks on Friday was a very useful setting to meet people at Bloomberg from my university and ask questions about life at the company and the applications process.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Yes! Plenty of information about charitable events and sports that employees can get involved with. During the time we were there they were organising and employee pool championship.

    5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Without hesitation. This one week of summer was time very well spent and I am very grateful for the opportunity to have been able to be part of it.
