The Role
My placement was extremely enjoyable and had a great balance between desk work and working with hardware. The team I worked in were a great group who were easy to get on with and happy to provide help when I needed it.
I felt very valued. They entrusted me with work that they do on a day-to-day basis allowing me to make a value-added contribution during my placement.
My manager and supervisor were very helpful as were my other colleagues. There was a very good balance between the amount of responsibility and guidance I was given.
Apart from my first week (which is always slow) I always had work to do. My objectives clearly set out what jobs I was required to complete and ensured I had a good level of work all the way through to my final day.
I was given a good amount of responsibility during my placement. I was placed in charge of managing the complete overhaul (strip, clean, inspection and rebuild) of a module, as well as writing official reports.
My communication skills significantly improved during this placement. I was required to work with colleagues from other teams and departments to complete the module overhaul and to keep many others up-to-date on progress. Secondly, my MATLAB skills were developed as I had to debug and use many codes to obtain data for a report I was writing. These skills, amongst others I developed during this placement will definitely come in useful as I go into my final year at university.
The Company
The atmosphere was good; everyone was friendly and happy to help.
My Summer placement was very well set up. A desk was already prepared when I arrived on my first day, with my own computer and phone already set up.I was given clear objectives during my first week which gave me a clear understanding of what was required of me.
The company provided me with a range of online learning courses. Otherwise they provided me with a placement which enabled me to develop my skills as an engineer.

I am very eager to return. I have applied for the Graduate Scheme and hope to hear back within 2-3 weeks.
The Culture
There was a social group set up for apprentices, interns and graduates. This group set up regular social and sporting events, some of which are heavily subsidised.
I worked in Bristol which isn't the cheapest of places, but the social group do a good job of subsidising events.
Good, there are plenty of pubs with live bands and good nightclubs.
There are sports teams you can join and also volunteering opportunities at air shows and other air industry events.
