The Role
From start to finish, the 12-month Internship was great fun! There were some things that were more enjoyable than others, but it was all part of the learning experience!
I felt appreciated. When things were traced back to me, I got thanks from Managers and colleagues across the business. To feel like what I was doing was making a difference felt great.
My Supervisor and Line Manager were superb. It felt like they had my best interests at heart with weekly 1-2-1s and even checked over my CV before I left. Almost all my personal development has occurred this year because they were not afraid to tell me the truth whether something was good or not so good!
Pretty busy! From the moment I started to the moment I finished, I was working non-stop. There was maybe a day where I didn't have a lot on........ and then it was busy all over again!!! It's definitely not a complaint though; you are only there for a year and it feels a lot better to be busy than have not enough work!!
I created adverts, ran training events, co-ordinated marketing packages for the dealer network, spoke to colleagues in Germany, proofread material and lots more. It was initially overwhelming as to how much there was to do, but then by the end I was loving the responsibility and it felt like second nature!
Presentation-skills, Personality insight tests, CV proofreads, honest feedback. It is exactly what you need during an industrial placement.
The Company
Focussed but chatty. The office was relatively narrow with lots of rows of desks. However everyone in the office was chirpy and keen to help if you got stuck on something.
Slick. Porsche Cars GB has taken on Marketing Interns for a couple of years now and it's obvious that the processes have been fine-tuned to perfection!
The company didn't really invest (there were a lot interns and we all probably received varying levels of development) but my supervisor in particular did. Keen to make sure that I didn't squander my opportunity, we often tracked my progress and she offered lots of feedback.

Sadly Porsche loves Second-year Interns and not Grads!! I would jump at the chance to go back and familiar faces do make a return every now and then, but overall it's not super likely.
The Culture
There were 15 Interns in total and I lived with 3 Interns from Porsche. I enjoyed living in my house this year and we will definitely be meeting up in 2015! We were maybe a little anti-social because we were not used to full-on careers whilst getting on with Uni work at the same time so sometimes just used the weekend to relax.
Reading is a little pricey but we did get free bus passes this year that helped enormously in terms of costs for the year. Overall not bad but not amazing.
Err Calcot?! There's only Porsche and a Sainsbury's in Calcot but Reading isn't bad. There are some places to go and it's more about who you're with rather than where you are!
We also worked on Charity fund-raising for Parkinson's and Make A Wish Foundation. It took up a large chunk of time but our main fund-raising was brilliant fun!
