The Role
This was an exciting and interesting internship, and absolutely would recommend it to anyone applying for the same position. There was an opportunity to also explore different departments and speak to other employees to find their feelings on the company.
It was refreshing to feel like I was benefiting the company as an intern rather than just being there to add to my CV. People all made a point of saying thank you for the work that I did, and always spoke to my Line Manager to explain what I had been doing for them.
The support scheme is excellent. There are meetings scheduled to analyse your performance and see where you can improve, and people are always available to ask questions if there is anything that you struggled with.
On a daily basis work was mixed. We were given objectives that we were expected to complete my the end of our placement, however often these did not take the full 10 weeks to do. There were ongoing tasks to do, all of which were interesting and varied. Occasionally there were days were work was a little slower, however this wasn't ongoing and wasn't surprising as there is only so much that an intern can help with.
Responsibility was never an issue. It was made clear pretty quickly that a high standard is expected, and if you delivered that then you were given more complicated tasks to help with. We were thrown in the deep end with learning what we had to do, and often were communicating with other parts of the company and helping out with working with clients.
Presentation skills were improved immensely, which will be extremely helpful. This internship has shown the need to be efficient and fast with work, whilst also maintaining a high standard, which will greatly help university.
The Company
Fantastic atmosphere, lots of birthdays and events happening, and everyone was very welcoming.
Organisation was very good. Everything was very clear and concise, every deadline that we had was made clear.
Every member of my team was happy to help out with anything that I asked of them, they all put a lot of time into helping improve my knowledge of the company.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
I would absolutely apply for a grad job here.
The Culture
The majority of the inters lived together in halls which meant it was easy to meet up with other interns.
Accommodation was £1000 for the ten weeks, however other living expenses weren't too bad in Derby. The train down to London is about £40 return which makes weekends away easy.
The nightlife in Derby was not great. When the students leave there isn't a huge scene on a Friday night.
Good social club set up withing the company, and it was easy to join sport teams.
