The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship. The variation of the work and the range of people I made with made it an invaluable experience.
I found the staff at Nottingham KPMG welcoming and friendly, and I felt like one of the team straight away and thoroughly enjoyed the socials.
I felt like I was always supported by management, who were always friendly and approachable, and always available to offer advice.
Each day varied in terms of how busy I was. However, I was usually set tasks by the in-charge on the job, and given an appropriate amount of time to complete them so I never felt too stressed, and knew I had enough time to complete the job thoroughly.
I enjoyed being given responsibility straight from day one. I was usually set tasks to complete by myself, but could always ask the in-charge for help if I needed clarification.
Overall I found my internship to be an invaluable experience. I develop skills including time management, organisation, how to work under pressure, as well as interpersonal skills.
The Company
People were always friendly and talkative, and people took it in turns to make rounds of drinks. More often than not, the office was only half full as people in audit tended to work out at clients, so it wasn't always the liveliest place to to work.
My internship was fairly well organised. We were provided with timetables on the first day of our placement which outlined where we would be each day. However, this timetable was subject to change, and there were a couple of instances where I was taken off a job and put onto another. Also, we were sometimes put down to work an "office day" which were not as structured as working at clients as it was up to us to find work from people.

Future employment prospects with KPMG are very appealing. I thought it was a friendly environment to work in, and got to work with different people everyday. It is a company with a fantastic reputation and structured career path- where you work towards a professional accounting qualification within a supportive environment, whilst still being able to earn.
The Culture
I shared a flat with two other interns so I got to know them really well. KPMG put us in touch with each other before the placement started so we could find accommodation close to the office. We often arranged to go out with the other two interns on a weekly basis.
There are a wide selection of bars, clubs and bars.
We participated in two Corporate Social Responsibility days whilst working at KPMG, which involved working outside in nature reserves and helping to cut down trees and cut back bushes.
