About You
I enjoyed it very much. The extremely well-organised schedule made certain that we gained experience of what the working environment and interests of the firm were.
I felt that everyone I met at the law firm appreciated how keen the vacation scheme participants were to learn about the firm and make the most of their time there. The lawyers gave up their time to attend various events and networking sessions. Our supervisors were also genuinely interested in working with us and discussing tasks with us.
The guidance and support was multi-layered and constantly available. Supervisors and trainee buddies were efficient with checking on our progress while the graduate recruiters were always able to be contacted for any relevant questions.
I think the vacation scheme was outstanding in this respect - it assisted me to start developing my career not only as work experience in general, but also in approaching my law studies and in working in the commercial law business.
The Company
All the events and opportunities were well-organised, well-paced and allowed room for some individual discovery of the firm as well as taking part in fixed activities.
The firm had a very upbeat atmosphere and I was fortunate to have been on a vacation scheme with similarly upbeat and supportive participants who shared experiences and were encouraging.
The investment via support given by our supervisors was very good, and the scheme also invested generously in evening networking events for the vacation scheme students and current trainees.
This is a difficult question to answer without having a full time role with the firm, but I came away feeling very well informed and confident enough to say whether I would take a full time role or not.
I had several discussions about company culture with current trainees and partners, which helped me build a picture of what the firm is working for.
The content of what I did every day confirmed to me that I wanted to pursue a legal career in the commercial sector.
Everything Else
The payment I received just about covered my accommodation costs in London for the three weeks.
These were abundant and in various (informal and formal) settings so that there was an opportunity to have just the kind of discussion you needed.
The firm invested very generously in these opportunities, and gave us a fulfilling experience of having spent three very fun weeks in London as well as having worked for the firm for three weeks.
I took part in two different pro bono schemes which the firm is involved in, and was invited to softball matches and other sport events by the trainees.
The scheme was as well-rounded as it was exciting, and lived up to my hopes of what I might be able to gain from a vacation scheme.
