The Role
At times work dried up and it was a little boring. Sometimes they restricted my responsibility on projects but that was understandable as we're talking mega-bucks here. However, when work was slow, there was so much to learn and so many resources on site that I was never completely idle.
Some good banter in the office and I was invited on quite a few nights out.
Due to a change in responsibilities between the UK and France just as I arrived, sometimes the staff themselves were slightly unsure of their job responsibilities and this had the knock-on effect of them not being entirely sure what to teach me. I was given the basic outline of how to do the job though.
Rarely was I overworked and sometimes quite bored but I learnt to use my time productively.
I got involved in some A350 and A400M work and they were impressed with my commitment so left me on the project whilst colleagues were away on business or holiday.
I learnt how to liaise with suppliers and conduct myself well on the telephone. I also had to learn to interact with people often in other countries all the time due to the transnational workings of Airbus. I learnt some extra computer skills such as how to use SAP and I think this will stand me in good stead in the future depending on what field I enter once I've graduated.
The Company
Fairly quiet and there was a lot of people leaving the office over the 3 months I was there. However, we often had a joke.
AIrbus take hundreds of interns on every year so they have the whole process worked out to a fine art. Whether it was the right decision to take me on in that department or not I'll have to let them decide but the department was in a bit of turmoil when I arrived.
I was given the opportunity to visit Broughton (where they make the wings for Airbus planes) and was given tours of the factory. They gave me a goody bag on starting and there were free tickets to the Farnborough airshow on offer so really, they invested a lot in their staff; not just interns.

It will certainly give me an edge if I apply for a DEG scheme in the future but I will still have to go through the whole recruitment process.
The Culture
We went on quite a few nights out and we were always chatting on the email during work time!
I managed to find a cheap house to rent in a poor area of Bristol (Easton) so I saved some money. However, most people chose to live in more affluent areas and spent their entire monthly wage packet on rent and food. Public transport is ridiculously expensive and rubbish in Bristol.
Some nice bars and clubs although nothing special if you compare it to Manchester. Average.
Opportunities were emailed around to interns on a regular basis and we often got involved in airshows and publicity items although the HR department were always favoured with most of the activities.
