    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The placement was incredibly well organised whilst still allowing each individual intern to have their own personal experiences and projects

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • This is team dependant, yet still every person I met at the company was accommodating towards the interns and seemed genuinely interested in what they had to put forward

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The company sets you up with HR representatives as well as your own business as usual manager and also a person Executive Director who acts as your mentor, combined these sources are fantastically supportive

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The application process states 9-5 however this is a loose figure as there is often enough work to make you need to stay longer. You are set 'business as usual' work as well as individual projects throughout the internship.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • You are given a large amount of responsibility, but this is not a bad thing as the team are so supportive that if you feel that you are struggling they will do everything possible to help you.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • A large number of interns (including myself) were offered the graduate job, so the skills you learn in this ten weeks may become skills you will be using for the rest of your life in Investment banking. However, if you are uninterested in investment banking, there are plenty of office and organisational skills you will also learn as well as opportunities to build on your confidence through presentations and meetings.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was great, the team are lovely and make you feel right at home and within the office there is the constant sound of people talking on the phone to clients and people from across the world.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement was incredibly well organised with plenty of senior worker speeches as well as social events and CSR days. Within the first two days you are given a schedule which is incredibly busy yet still interesting enough to keep you excited.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There are online mandatory training courses you have to take which are thorough and easy to navigate. Actual business as usual work is done on an 'on the job' basis which actually allows you to learn and feel confident in your role a lot quicker, you will find that after two weeks you will fit perfectly into your teams business day.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • As I stated previously, I was lucky enough to be given a graduate job after the ten week placement which means I will be back working there in a year. The job prospects are vast and the graduate scheme looks incredibly well organised and also interesting, from my experiences with the other interns and current graduates it appears to be very appealing.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The summer long interns have the opportunity to stay in Bournemouth University halls throughout summer which is the perfect opportunity for the interns to bond. After two weeks everyone seemed to have a good social crowd and a solid set of friends. The company also throws a lot of networking events for the interns to meet each other and to socialise.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Bournemouth isn't too expensive and the pay you receive is definitely more than enough to live on and have a very healthy social life.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Bournemouth's got a great night life with plenty of pubs and clubs about, also as it is a summer internship there is the bonus of living by one of England's best beaches during the warmer months with lots of other like minded people. Overall it has a really good social scene.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • JP Morgan are very invested in business resource groups and due to this there were plenty of talks and events you could go to through work, both academic and social. There are also plenty of volunteering opportunities available through the company.
