The Role
This placement provided me with both enjoyment as well as challenges. Due to the short nature of the placement I wasn't allowed access to a lot of programmes which meant my workload was pretty limited. I feel if it was a longer placement I would have enjoyed it more as I could have access to variety of jobs.
As my role was in the managerial sector it was always going to be difficult coming into a new team, but I felt from day 1 that everyone tried to help me as much as possible. Everyone bought into what I was trying to do and I felt that I had made a lot of connections whilst working within our small team.
My supervisor gave me as much support as I needed at any point. He also tried to push me into my own thinking, and use my initiative rather than relying on other people, which I though was pretty amazing to say I was only there for 10 weeks.
To be honest I could have done with more work on a day to day basis. This was partly down to the fact it was only for 10 weeks like already mentioned. Overall I had things to do for the most part, but I believe that I could have been given a little more to just push me along.
My whole project was about rolling out a new practice of working, and throughout I pretty much ran the project. I had help from my line manager and other team managers but I was the overall manager of the project at all stages
I think the skills learnt will be very useful for further projects and presentations at university, but also going into work the skills I learnt will be priceless. I firmly believe that my presenting and influencing skills have developed hugely and these are key in the managerial role.
The Company
The atmosphere was generally good, I got on with a lot of people. But whilst I was there a lot of the team was going through restructuring and had a busy schedule, which obviously changed how the team was behaving at points.
The work placement was set up brilliantly, there was a tiny hiccup at first with login details, but these after everything was brilliant.
With regards to training, I was allowed to complete any relevant further training, and also I attended off site visits to further develop my understanding. For a 10 week placement I couldn't have asked for more.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Above 25 days holiday
I have applied for a graduate job, and I would suggest anybody who was thinking about applying for such vacancy do it, because it is a great company to work for, with lots of opportunity.
The Culture
As there wasn't any other placement students in my department it is hard to say, I believe if I was there for a longer period I would have got a better experience.
The cost of living was very cheap, and there are numerous places you can go for things to do.
N/a
There are lost of things to do out of work, whether it be the gym, rowing, cycling, rugby, etc. Also some of our team played five a side football.
