The Role
I enjoyed it very much. I went in with no coding experience whatsoever, and after a brief introductory period I was thrown into real tasks and was constantly both challenged and educated.
Extremely; despite my lack of experience I became the resident expert in two vital testing tools as well as the tool I was building over the internship - towards the end of my time I was consistently being asked for help with all three.
To the greatest extent possible! Metaswitch have an excellent management and mentorship system in place, and I was very happy with the support and guidance.
Very. I always knew my full working schedule at least a week in advance.
Virtually none to begin with, understandably due to my lack of experience, but as I became more familiar with the technologies and roles of the team I was entrusted with designing a vital test tool and, as above, became the most knowledgeable with some of the tools we already used.
Not at all in my degree - it is completely unrelated - but it has inspired me to look at this field for future work.
The Company
A little too serious for my liking, but with very generous and flexible hours so the culture seemed to be that if you wanted to take a small break and blow off some steam you would just go somewhere else!
Extremely - very well defined tasks both short and long term.
An enormous amount; they spent 3 weeks training me to program in the first place before moving on to any real tasks.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Very - I hope to receive a job offer!
The Culture
yes, very much - more than half of the group lived together, which facilitated this.
Minimal; company rent was generously subsidised for Edinburgh in the summer and we stayed in the student area, so general cost of living was not bad at all.;
Excellent - 10 minutes from Edinburgh city centre.
Not really through the company directly, but we were made aware of the huge possibilities Edinburgh has to offer.
