The Role
I really enjoyed my placement at Mundipharma and found it a great place to work.
I felt a valued member of the team as a whole and also my project team, and became great friends with some of my colleagues here.
My manager was very good at understanding my needs and if I needed support I was able to go to him for help.
There are the odd occasions where workload is a little light, but you can always find something to do, or where there are other people around who are willing to help you out if you are busy!
I was given a good deal of responsibility which enabled me to work independently and also carry out some research work and bring forward new ideas to my team members.
I developed not only new skills with regards to my degree in terms of using high-end analytical equipment, and developing methods and learning about all the testing that goes on in a Pharmaceutical Analysis Laboratory, but also learnt a great deal of social skills, including improving existing ones such as effective communication and working as part of a team, as well as building my own self confidence.
The Company
Generally, the atmosphere where I worked was brilliant. The team are great, and I got on really well with nearly all of my colleagues. There are people to have a laugh with, but also a good atmosphere of teamwork and getting things done together.
The work placement was well organized as they have students every year so they know what to do an what to expect. If requirements of what your university wants are a little different from previous students, it can take a little bit of explaining for you supervisor to understand your needs, but overall was good.
There are a number of opportunities to be trained on extra equipment but also go on classes to help develop skills for other aspects of the job which are available to everyone and you are encouraged to go on. These are also good, as often they can be things you take away from the placement with you.

If you know you like the company, then you know to keep in touch just in case!
The Culture
Many students often got together and went out or had lunch together whilst at work.
Cambridge can be expensive, but I moved back into my family home. I know the company will help put you in touch with a firm on where to rent, and socializing can be cheap if you know where to go!
University town so isn't too bad!
There is lots to do in and around Cambridge, but I lived at home so wasn't based in Cambridge.
