The Role
I enjoyed it very much, it was always interesting and I was made to feel like one of the team. I have learnt loads but had fun too!
I feel like I am treated as an equal to the other staff here, and am also valued as not just a member of staff but as a person.
I have been given ample support and guidance by my managers, though they also gave me the freedom to make my own decisions. They have provided me with so many opportunities, and also put time into my personal development.
I was always busy and although I sometimes had to work to tight deadlines I never felt overwhelmed by work.
I was given lots of responsibility when working on my own project and on doing tasks for others. I was also trusted to attend external meetings on behalf of CRUK.
I think the internship has been invaluable and I am already making use of the skills I learnt in applying for jobs. I think it has definitely given me skills for life.
The Company
The atmosphere was great for getting work done and it felt like everyone was working hard, but at the same time everyone was very friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was very positive. There was also lots of cake and tea!
It was seamlessly structured, they put lots of work into our personal development, we were set clear objectives and held weekly progress meetings.
We were given an extensive CV workshop, the opportunity to attend a presentation skills workshop, and we had our own careers packs to help us track our skills progression.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
National Travel
The employment prospects are pretty good, about 10% of interns get a job here and although I am going back to finish my degree, we have been told that we are welcome to apply for jobs in the future.
The Culture
We often went out for drinks after work and had lunches together (both interns and my team here).
It was very expensive as it was in London, but there were cheaper places to go to. We had our lunch and travel subsidised too.
I didn't go out that much, but the pubs and bars are good.
There were plenty of opportunities to get involved in fundraising for the charity, but not many work social groups/clubs etc.
