The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed this internship. It was well organised and I learnt a vast amount during the 8 weeks I spent with the company. All of my colleagues were welcoming and friendly and the work was varied and interesting. Overall it proved to be an invaluable experience and I would definitely recommend an internship with this particular firm,
I felt very valued by my colleagues; from day one I was able to ask them questions and as the internship progressed I became more involved in discussions. My colleagues always listened to my thoughts and questions and made me feel a member of the team.
The support offered by this firm is fantastic. Not only did my mentor and supervisor offer guidance and answer any questions; everyone else in the office were more than happy to help too. This made adjusting to a new environment very easy as I was consistently supported.
We always had work to do and so were continuously busy. On a daily basis I completed a large variety of work which made the placement very interesting. Whenever we were given work we were always asked if we had time to ensure we were never busy to the point where we couldn't cope. There gave a perfect balance in terms of how busy I was.
From day one we were assigned to client tasks; we never did anything that was not important in some way. We therefore were given a lot of responsibility considering we were interns; any work we were asked to complete was always explained to us and help was always there if we needed it.
The skills developed and training I received will greatly assist in my degree studies and beyond. As the work was challenging I was able to develop critical skills that will prove to be very useful throughout the remainder of my degree. The actuarial training and skills developed with regards to actuarial work will definitely prove to be useful beyond my degree studies as I am now determined to pursue a career within the actuarial profession.
The Company
Everyone in the office was very friendly and I felt I could approach anyone with any questions I had. Although there was laughter around the office there was also a lot of hard work going on. In this sense the balance between work and fun was perfect.
The internship was very well organised, structured and executed, We were given a 2 day induction at the start and regular training sessions which complimented the client work we were given. A clear guideline of what we would be doing throughout the internship was given to us and we were always aware of what was expected of us. I felt that the internship ran seamlessly right from the start to the very end.
I feel that the firm invested a lot in us. We were given regular training sessions and a 2 day induction; these sessions proved very useful as they gave us an understanding of the client work we were involved in which allowed us to develop our knowledge of the actuarial profession. We were also given review meeting where our development was discussed; positive aspects were highlighted and we were always given points where we could improve. This allowed us to develop throughout the internship which I found very useful.

If an intern proves throughout the internship that they possess the core values and skills that are important to the firm then employment prospects can be very good. I would happily return to this firm on a graduate scheme as I found the internship very enjoyable and would definitely want to work within this firm again.
The Culture
There was always an opportunity to socialise through socials and lunches which proved to be a lot of fun. We were even able to organise our own social which was very enjoyable.
As I lived within travelling distance of the firm the cost of living and socialising was not too high.
Although the location of the office was fairly quiet, there were a few pubs around so the opportunity for a night out was always there.
Socials were organised frequently which gave a lot of opportunity to get involved in activities outside of work. The socials were very varied so there was something for everyone to enjoy.
