The Role
Was a challenging but enjoyable six months. I enjoyed the company atmosphere and there were plenty of ways to get involved in social groups and activities.
Felt like my work was worthwhile and that my colleagues valued my contribution to there work. There was active interest and discussion in presentations that led to interesting discussions of the technology being investigated.
A very good system of mentors and support meant that I was able to get help at any point but still felt I had my own responsibilities.
Fairly busy most days, work started immediately with no long lag waiting for bureaucracy at the beginning.
I was given a fair amount of responsibility for my project, arranging meetings with external suppliers and contractors to look at new technology and methods. In meetings with university researchers I was given responsibility of displaying our results and defending them.
A large amount, the CFD based work I did directly befefitted the CFD module the following year. Also the placement improved the quality of my report writing a large amount allowing my coursewirk to be more succinct and relevant. The mot improved area of my work however was my presentation skills which were frequently tested throughout the placement.
The Company
Fun office most of the time although there were a large number of days where there were very few people in the office due to the nature of the team. The company as a whole however had a relaxed positive attitude that made working there pleasant. Also there was an active social group (the Apprenticeship Association)
Very well organised with a realistic expectation of the students abilities. Never felt like they did not know what was going on.
A large amount, went on a number of training courses and learnt a lot about Rolls-Royce's technologies, felt like I was wanted back
