The Role
The project I had the opportunity to work on was really interesting and we produced a tangible result which will have an impact in the company so it was really worthwhile. National Grid provides lots of opportunities to experience a huge range of aspects of the company which is really good
When we presented to a panel of engineers the interest in the subject was clear and I think we both felt that the work we had produced was valued by them.
We had weekly meetings with our line manager and those running the Power Academy scheme made sure we knew they were available for support should it be necessary.
As we had to produce a document at the end of our placement we had quite a lot of work to do to complete it but I wasn't busy all day.
We were in a small group of people looking into the content of our project and hopefully the strategy document should kick-off further work and changes to be implemented so we had some responsibility.
I have a greater appreciation for all aspects that would impact on a strategy change within a company and the difficulty of implementing any change.
The Company
Friendly but quiet
Very well organised, only let down by some aspects such as travel not being made clear.

The future opportunities are fantastic with a huge range of jobs and careers on the graduate scheme. From what I've heard from graduates, their tasks are varied and the company invest a huge amount of time and money into your development.
The Culture
We had a group of about 15 interns, most of whom were based in the same location so the social aspect was really good. There were many opportunities to socialise with the graduates as well
Fairly standard for a University town, my rent was slightly more than some alternatives but it suited me well and socialising wasn't too expensive at all!
I was living in Leamington Spa where there are loads of pubs and bars and a few small nightclubs, it was very similar to my University living so it suited me!
There were quite a few opportunities organsied amongst the other interns but nothing was organsied by the company
