The Role
I was involved with multiple challenging projects which I enjoyed, particularly sourcing and shortlisting candidates and analysing surveys. The main factor that helped me enjoy my internship were the people! I've never met people who are so polite, professional and passionate at the same time!
I felt valued when I received my feedback on my first month's work performance. I did not realise what perception my team had of me until I was told because my team are very busy, but overall the feedback was positive. I appreciated this very much, and the fact that people asking me for help/support on their projects was a good sign. Always ask for feedback, because you never know what perception they have of you even if you think you might know the answer, you could be wrong.
I was always given support, asking how I am doing and if any questions I would like to ask, just ask. My mentor gave me alot of support, in which ways I can develop my skills e.g. my mentor arranged a time to practise my presentation skills and would give me advice on what areas I should development and what my strengths are, which was very helpful.
First two weeks I wasn't that busy, I had meetings and training sessons however, but this was to settle me in at CRUK. I was warned after 2 weeks I am going to be very busy which I was!
I had a alot responsibiliy and majority of the time, I felt I was a CRUK employee and part of the team.
I've become more organised and gained time management skills. I attended to quite a few workshops such as Influencing & Persuasion skills, Presentation skills, Assertiveness, CV/Interview Training and strengthening these skills would not only be beneficial to my degree studies but also my career.
The Company
Fast paced, friendly, good amount of space around you
The internship was very well structured
CRUK emphasised strongly on our personal training and development. The number of opportunities here that can help us gain personal development is wider to any other company I know at this moment
Flexi Time
Company Parties/Events
It is quite appealing - employement at CRUK is what I am considering but possibly not after I graduate
The Culture
Yes definately - all fellow students were easy to talk to and get on with. We would organise a get together nearly once or twice every week!
It was quite expensive but that's life in London isn't it
At angel, it's okay but we can go somewhere else rather than Angel such as Bank or St pauls which is much better
Yes, such as fundraising money for charity which many very much enjoyed
