The Role
The work was varied and the people were honest and friendly. I was given a lot of responsibility to get on with tasks and was not chased or constantly watched by managers. The working was flexible ( work from home/office/client site). I really enjoyed going to all of the client sites and seeing their offices and the way they operate.
Even though I was an intern I was treated as a full team member and invited to drinks and events like everybody else. People made time to answer my questions and were really interested in talking to me to find out what other work I had been involved in. I worked as part of real teams so had work to produce like everybody else and was relied upon as much as the full time employees.
There is a huge support network at EY, I had a councillor who was there to give advice on feedback and career options. Also an Intern manager who organised everything for us, there is 1 per department so you really get to know your intern manager and become friends with them. Mine was early 20's so really knew what it was like being a student and wanting to work but also have fun. Also, the manager and Executives on every job provide you with feedback so that you can develop on your next rotation.
It is not busy season during the summer so there is not lots of work to do. I had 2/3 days of downtime throughout the 6 weeks where my intern manager gave me a small project to fill my time. There was always people who had work or needed help so you were never left with nothing to do, just sometimes you needed to go looking for a task.
I was left to get on with some statutory accounts and converse with the client alone.
I have learnt a lot about audit and had much more exposure to financial accounts and what can be done with them. It has been really useful to see in practice how accounts are pulled together and will help me during my advanced financial accounting module when back at University.
The Company
There is a hot desk area so nobody has their own desk, its a 1st come 1st served system so you were always next to someone new. Large groups of people regularly went out for drinks and there was an open invitation for everyone to join which was a great way to get to know people. Everyone is fairly young so the atmosphere is fairly fun and upbeat.
It was seamless, everything from the induction week right through to handing back my laptop was organised. I was clearly set up on 3 different clients before my arrival and my laptop was set up and ready waiting on my arrival. The feedback process worked exactly as they said it would and the support network was in place and ready for us when we arrived.
We gained feedback on every job that worked on so gained valuable points to learn from, we discussed these with our councillor to get the most out of the internship. We frequently had many talks and opportunities to talk with networks and partners in the business to find out about opportunities available. We were sent emails to complete online web based learning modules in order to develop our understanding of our service line.

All interns should look at the internship as a 6 week interview for a Graduate position. They look at your feedback from the 6 weeks and decide whether or not to make you an offer.
The Culture
Definately! There were over 60 interns in the London office so we would frequently meet for lunch and drinks after work. Just like being at Uni really!!
It was central London so quite expensive but to be expected. We found some cheaper bars that did special deals on week nights so you just had to shop around.
London is full of bars and restaurants so they were always busy and bustling after work.
There are loads of sports clubs, charity projects and network events that are open to all.
