The Role
I really enjoyed my placement at GSK, it gave me a really positive view of what to expect after i graduate and enter full time employment.
I was never treated as "just a student", everyone at GSK treated me as a fellow employee and valued my ideas and opinions as much as anyone else.
My line manager was superb in supporting me throughout my placement, helping me to gain a better understanding of the company and how i fit inside as well as helping with my university course work.
I was regularly kept busy with tasks that needed to be completed on a monthly cycle for my role as well as being given plenty of opportunities to work on different projects around the company.
I was given lots of responsibility during my time at GSK, my manager was happy for me to work with little supervision after i had proved my ability to complete my tasks. As well as this i was able to get involved with the student organisation and was able to manage some of my own projects.
I was able to learn more about working within a large organisation and was able to develop into a more prepared better professional. I was also able to complete training courses during my placement which helped me gain skills i can take into my final year of university
The Company
Very relaxed and easy going, no dress code and there was always social events going on to meet others and chat.
The placement year was really well organised but unfortunately GSK had just changed how their Future Leaders programme works which wasn't so well organised and left some students confused with how their placement role would help them get onto the Future Leaders programme
There was money available to spend on training courses outside of the company as well as internal training courses that were free to employees.

At the moment there are limited roles popping up but 90% of the previous students i knew had all managed to get direct entry roles or temporary roles after graduating.
The Culture
Yes all the students would get together and arrange social events, as well as doing this with students on your site there were also social events with other sites so there would always be something on.
Cost of living was average but as it is a small town all the students lived locally and was easy to go out and socialise with plenty of pubs and bars in the area.
nightlife was good in the local area, London was also a short train journey away.
outside of work there are all sorts of activities from Football to rock climbing and kayaking. Through joining in with these activities i was able to branch out and meet people from all over the company.
