The Role
My placement year was a good experience, well worth it and enjoyable as it was in a field I was interested in.
My colleagues made efforts to get to know me did not ignore or disrespect any work done, as they understood the time gone into it.
My supervisor was very helpful and a good teacher, giving clear guidance as to the directions of the project.
How busy you were depended on the tasks involved, how long particular experiments took, and whether there were time pressures.
You were responsible for generating and presenting your data and being in the lab, but the supervisors lead the projects. More responsibility was given as you learnt and got more confident.
I learnt a lot about the adult working life and also about my chosen career. I learnt many useful skills for my university course and beyond.
The Company
Office atmosphere was good, as expected really, several students present and the colleagues were fun at times. Good work ethic too.
They were prepared for taking in placement students as they have many each year.
They invested in us in the sense that the employees gave up their time to teach us well, enabling us to learn skills that would useful for after the placement, both in and out of the lab, also encouraging us to do presentations etc...
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club

Company Parties/Events
Subsidised Canteen
Financial Bonus
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
The placement will give valuable experience that may aid in applying for a job. Jobs similar to the roles we carried out.
The Culture
Yes, there were many student onsite which was good and meant we could socialise with people in the situation as ourselves.
On the expensive side as we were located near London. However, depended where you went to socialise.
Several pubs, but one nightclub, as it was not a student town.
Not that many, unless you deliberately sought them out, and found a way of travelling there (having a car or bike is useful).
