    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Although my role was not related to my degree and was not exactly where I was hoping to be placed, I made the most of my time at the BoE and had a great time. Everyone was very welcoming and friendly, the work was not simply fetching coffee but was challenging, and there was many great opportunities on offer during my time there that made the whole experience enriching. I would definitely consider returning.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt as though my work had a significant role to play in the work of the department, and as such felt a valued part of the team throughout my time. I was fully integrated into the department, and the team was very welcoming/

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • There was regular contact with my Manager, she met with me several times, and set objectives with me, which were reviewed twice during my internship. Feedback was honest and helpful and gave good points for development. I was actively encourged to explore all the roles and opportunities the Bank had to offer, and was not tied down to my specific department.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Work level was very manageable, as my manager wanted to give me time to explore the extras that the Bank had to offer (Seminars, Talks, attending pre-MPC briefing and Inflation Report news conference)

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given several projects that had direct impact into the work of my department. I was given ownership of these projects from the start, and had responsibility to make sure my work was to a high standard.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills were not related to my degree studies (I was in Central Services, and I am a politics and economics student) However, the skills will be extremely useful in my working life and the knowledge I have gained of the Bank would be very valuable in a future role here.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very friendly, chatty and welcoming. There were always treats available and being passed around. Not very hierarchical at all.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Quite well organised and the coordinator was always available to email or call with any questions.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Training sessions, induction sessions, seminars, career meetings etc. were all available and I felt that the Bank was very invested in ensuring we would come back for next years internship or a graduate role.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • End of the first year internship doesn't conclude with a job offer, but a fast track to either the 2nd year internship or graduate position.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Plenty of bars and nights out arranged by other interns

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Very expensive, but is central London. There is a subsidised shop and canteen, which makes it cheap to eat in the Bank (avg. £2.50-3 for a main meal; ~£1.50 for a huge sandwich).

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Plenty of bars and nightclubs if you want to go out. Expensive however. (£5 upward for a pint)

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Sports clubs but I didn't participate. The sports center is however far outside of London and not easily accessible (Roehampton)

    3/5
