The Role
Overall, the internship was a great learning experience, It gave me practical work experience in a large bank. The internship helped me decide which department I would potentially be interested in for a long term career.
I was lucky to have very helpful colleagues that appreciated my work from the beginning. I was comfortable working with all of them and immediately felt valued.
The support and guidance i recieved was extremely helpful. Towards the end of my internship i was intentionally under less supervision which was perfect in order to develop and learn individually.
On daily basic i wasn't actually too busy which sometimes made the days drag. The internship was 10 weeks which i personally think was too long, given that i wasnt always occupied.
Towards the end of my internship i was given a decent amount of responsibilty as an intern and i was aware of the contribution i made to the entire team.
I developed personal skills like communication and confidence, technical skills like data as well as general information regarding the UK banking environment, Santanders position. All of which will be extremely helpful in the future.
The Company
The office had a decent environment, i wouldnt say it was particularly lively nor was it extremely dull. The colleagues around me were particularly friendly and helpful which made the general atmosphere better.
Unfortunately, i dont think the internship set up was good. However, I found out about the internship very close to its start date, as a result the process was rushed and not well organised.
The company was aware that as an intern, i wanted to gain something important from the internship and as a result, constantly tried to help me develop to acheive this result
National Travel
I will definately apply for their graduate programme, the four rotation scheme is really informative and flexible.
The Culture
Unfortunately there didnt seem like a big social scene with fellow colleagues though other interns were based in the same office which made it better.
Cost of living was not too expensive, though half my salary went on accomodation which was quite disappointing. There were a few socialising possibilities as well.
Though I didnt go out too much, I stayed near a student area so nightlife seemed good!
There were a few, depends on what you want to get involved in.
