The Role
I really enjoyed the majority of the tasks given to me. They were always fairly vairied and challenging. Early mornings were sometimes a drag though, especially when you had to be at a client by 9am.
Everyone who I worked with always thanked me for my help and gave extensive feedback on my performance which was then relayed to me at the end of my placement. If I didn't understand a certain task, someone always went out their way to help me.
I was given two appraisals during the 8 weeks I worked with KPMG. I was surprised by the depth of the appraisals and some small things were noted, ie. I stayed on late once to help out someone I wasn't working for but this was still noted.
This varied from day-to-day but the majority of the time there was the perfect balance between working hard but having an achievable end goal.
I was very surprised at how much the KPMG staff trusted us to handle certain situations. I was put in front of clients to chat through some audit issues with them and in the last week I was on my own in businesses conducting store visits.
I feel it has certainly given me a lot more confidence in talking to people and experience in situations where I'm not wholly comfortable. Having only just completed the internship two weeks ago, I feel it is a bit early to comment on how it has helped me degree although I am sure it will help some of my accountancy modules.
The Company
Many socials run and nights out organised - football, cricket, dinner, etc. Everyone would say hello to you and no-one would ignore you.
Very well - everything was in place beforehand and all seemed to know what was going on. There was an introduction booklet given to us which was extremely helpful and also a pen-picture and information aboiut all the office staff to help us put names to faces.
There was not very much personal training on the internship - it was more about learn on the job. However, the office invested a lot of time in me. I was sent up to Glasgow for a couple of days and given numerous other good jobs.

I was given a job after my internship. During my time there, I was told that I would be appraised for all my work and if my work was up to the right standard, then I would get given a partner interview for a position on their graduate scheme. This was made very clear at the start and a lot of help and advice was given so I could prepare well for this - including two study days to practice for the interview.
The Culture
Yes - all the interns got on really well and we keep in contact after the internship. We organised a couple of nights out amongst ourselves and everyone was very friendly.
I am a student in Nottingham so already have a house up there but prices are very fair - especially if you go out on a student night.
Some very good nights but the locals can be a bit dodgy so watch where you go. Wouldn't advise Spoons or Yates on a Fri/Sat night.
Yes - there was a curry night for all the boys and numerous sporting activities including golf, football and cricket
