The Role
Thoroughly enjoyable. Everyone in the group is kind and supportive. The projects i was given were real issues facing the group and the outcomes of my work were used by senior executives in the decision making process.
Everyone was king and supportive. At no point did a colleague make me feel uncomfortable or undervalued.
My managers allowed me to work in my own way and perform in a way that suited my working style. However, they also gave me guidance and support when needed.
Interns are contracted on a 9 to 5 basis and Lloyds stick strongly to this. It would have been nice to have more work as myself and other interns were expecting something slightly more demanding in terms of workload and hours, but the fact that this was not the case was great for having a life outside work and also being able to enjoy the summer in evenings and weekends.
The work I did was surrounding real issues facing the group at the moment and had large consequences for decision making at an executive level.
The networking skills, business language and other things I learnt are very transferable and will be useful in university and my future career.
The Company
Office environment is friendly and fun. Lack of social events put on by the central team in comparison to other internships was a let down, but this did not stop the interns from getting to know one another and organising these ourselves, but would have been nice to have more organised things (E.g: a closing dinner/ball, lunches, after work drinks etc)
Other than IT issues which are abundant as a result of the old technology, the internship was seamlessly organised.
No formal training and would have appreciated an opportunity to express development desires and have these met, but given the role I was in and length of internship this is unsurprising.
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Offered a place on the graduate program.
The Culture
Many of the interns lived together in provided accommodation and thus got to know each other very well. I did not live here as already have property in the city, but met up often after work for drinks etc.
Quite an expensive and up-market city but live here as a student so used to it. As a result of the fairly rigid 9 to 5 hours, had plenty of time to socialise and get to know other interns.
Bristol, great nightlife.
A few charity days, one bar crawl and an event that is being held after the internship has closed but that we have been invited to.
