The Role
I was able to use the skills learned at University in a real workplace environment which to me was invaluable.
All of my colleagues treated me like a regular employee, I was never made to feel like "the intern".
I had an extensive support network, through both my manager and also my senior advisor who provided me with career guidance and also help with my final year dissertation idea.
At the start I was expecting to get thrown straight into the work which didn't happen, but once there was work it was sufficient to fill the day without feeling overwhelmed. There is a large culture of "finding your own work", so the more effort you put into finding work, the more work there will be to do!
I was allowed to complete the work I was given with free reign, so I did not feel like there was someone constantly over my shoulder. We also had an extra-curricular project which as a group we were allowed to take full responsibility for.
It gave me the confidence to use coding techniques that I may not have prior knowledge of; during the internship I had to self-teach myself many coding methods which I can now use in my final year at University. The internship also allowed me to see how the skills I have learned at University are applied within the workplace.
The Company
It was a relaxed business atmosphere, but I did feel at times that talking to colleagues at the next desk was sometimes frowned upon.
There was confusion at the start of the internship, where we were told by email that our documents had been lost and we had to resend them. I was also not made aware that I had to fill out a P46 instead of a P45 until after I had also sent my P45. During the internship organisation was better, but sometimes invites to events were mixed up, deleted, changed, or did not provide enough information.
There were plenty of training opportunities through the virtual learning environment but also in-house; I attended a session on Agile that proved invaluable. However, you do have to be willing to seek out the opportunities for yourself!

The graduate scheme looks to be interesting both as a job but also as a learning opportunity as you have the opportunity to move roles and explore different parts of the business.
The Culture
I am aware that there was a lot of social gatherings between interns living in Bournemouth, which were placed on the Facebook group, but as I live a distance from Bournemouth I did not attend any nights out myself.
I already live in the area.
I already live in the area and socialise in my hometown.
