The Role
I enjoyed my placement very much. I met some brilliant people who helped me to develop through the year. I got to do some really exciting work with real responsibility at points throughout the year- however there were low points where I was struggling for work to do.
I felt very valued by my colleagues as I was trusted with a lot of sensitive information and tight deadlines.
I was given a lot of support from my managers throughout the year. I had weekly and fortnightly meetings with my managers where I was able to ask anything and I was given great advice about elements of work as well as more general advice.
My year varied on how busy I was as I underwent 3 different elements in different departments in my placement year. Some departments were really busy, but others were very slow and the work was scarce.
I felt that a lot of responsibility was given to me on my placement as I was trusted with sensitive information and dealing with internal and external clients.
I believe that I received a lot of helpful training and learnt many useful skills that will help me in later life. I don't think that these skills will help me with my final year of studying, but they have helped me since in applying for jobs and in my communication with people in life situations.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office varied from having fun to hard work. It depended very much on the team that you were in and who was in the office that day. All in all it was a good atmosphere and everyone was more than willing to help and have a giggle.
There were some hiccups in the planning of my placement and a lot was left to the last minute due to business reasons. However overall my manager did a great job and it enabled me to shape my placement and tailor it to incorporate elements that I wanted to get experience in and get involved with.
I believe that GSK invested a lot in my development as I was able to visit other sites, I was enrolled in training courses and was able to get involved in everything that I showed an interest in.

Subsidised Canteen
Financial Bonus
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
I would love to go back and work at GSK in the future.
The Culture
There was a very good social scene among the fellow placement students. A community called IP Unite was set up and organised many events throughout the year.
London was expensive but it is doable on the pay.
There was little nightlife in Ealing however central london nightlife was excellent.
Many charity events.
