The Role
Although the work wasn't very technical, the people made my internship enjoyable.
People felt happy to give me work and trusted me with it, but often weren't expecting a high level of quality in return which was disheartening.
My line manager wanted to give me a good amount of support but was often too busy to spend as much time with me as he would have liked.
There were quite a few days where I was not busy at all.
See the section about colleague value.
All the skills I learnt were management based, which are useful, but not something I was looking to improve.
The Company
All the people were very friendly and happy to chat, but everyone was pushed for time and as a result the atmosphere could be stressful at times.
All interns joining had problems when starting. I feel there was a lack of organisation before we turned up. My line manager certainly seemed too busy to explain anything to me before my first day. The IT was not set up until over a week after we arrived, and as a returning intern there were many issues with re-enabling my account. I also don't think that so many interns should have been assigned to a team that clearly didn't have enough time for their activities.
I was helped through achieving my Yellow Belt.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
If the internship goes well then they will consider you for another one next year, or offer you a space on the graduate program depending on how far through your degree you are.
The Culture
Most interns stayed in Derby Uni Halls and there was a good social scene.
Derby is quite cheap
While Derby does have nightclubs, they are not anything to get excited about.
There were only a few things organised by work.
