The Role
I enjoyed working at KPMG because they were very supportive and helpful. The graduate role is made clear and and the people are enjoyable to work with. So even if the work can get boring at times, the people are always there to make it more fun.
I was given work that was quite significant and when i used to complete it, they really appreciated it. Others i heard, had to carry out hours worth of photocopying etc., and even then they were grateful for having you there.
Alot of guidance and support was given, however there was always time where you could spend days practically doing nothing. It was therefore essential to make sure you made the most of the opportunity and took on work when it wasn't spoon fed. When work was given the support was definitely there.
When i was on a year end audit client, I was very busy. I used to get in at 9 and leave no earlier than 6.30. A couple of the days I stayed there till 10. However on an interim audit client, it was very laid back, and you had time to have an hour lunch, and leave at 5.
I was given responsibility from day one. I was able to interact with the client on my own accord and once the work was explained I was left to do it on my own.
I felt the accounting work I carried out, increased my accounting knowledge very much. Also the interaction with the client also raised my commercial awareness.
The Company
when working in teams, it was always a laugh. But there were always time when work had to get done. It was never uterally boring.
It was very organised. We had a 2-day induction in Reading, which allowed us to get to know the other interns. They also planned a CSR day for us where we all went and painted this old house. The clients they put me on where great and everything was planned well,
sending us on clients and working in the teams with managers etc, I learnt alot. I feel this investment was the most valuable.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
I was successful at the partner interview, which all interns are fast tracked to.
The Culture
The intern group were great as they planned a drinks or get together every week.
It was in central London so not that cheap.
Its London!
There were always department events and drinks that were held. Just a choice of whether you wanted to attend.
