The Role
I really enjoyed my placement year at GlaxoSmithKline. It really was a life changing experience, and has allowed me to gain skills which I can now apply to the world of work post graduation.
My team were very genuine and friendly. There were a number of out of office functions which allowed me to create a bond with various members of my team outside of work. I still keep in touch with some of my team post leaving which is great.
I was supported by my manager in regards to my workload and progress.
I was quite busy and at times my workload was very manic, however this just helped me to come to terms with what the normal day in an office was like, and helped me to acquire time management and organisational skills.
I was given a lot of responsibility in my placement year, which really allowed me to gain a lot of skills and also provided me with more of a real experience of working in such a large company doing a real role.
I would say to a large extent as I gained a lot of transferable skills which will really benefit me in both my degree studies and career life.
The Company
The atmosphere varied, as the office was very large it wasn't totally quiet but had a level of seriousness while at the same time quiet friendly.
It was pretty simple and not much needed to be done which was great as I could focus on my second year studies.
I think they really did invest into me as they did support me and equip me with experiences which helped me to further develop my skill sets, however I do feel that I could have been invested in more in relation to my future career path choices.

Very appealing!
The Culture
All placement students usually had socials on a monthly or bi weekly basis (depending how full our workload was!).
I lived at home and the commute was not that expensive at all.
The office was not located in an area where night life is close by so I didn't experience this.
There was always out of work activities going on which was great as I could mingle with colleagues outside if work.
