The Role
It was better than I thought it would be. The work I was given was very enjoyable to do and I wouldn't hesitate to do another internship.
The members of my team eased me into the work in a inviting manner and thoroughly explained things I didn't understand in a friendly way whenever I needed them to. This was one of the best experiences that I've had working in a team by far.
They always gave me support at the start of every assignment, teaching me useful tricks of the trade I could use to do my work more efficiently. They took the time to make sure that I knew exactly what I was doing during the task too.
I was given the perfect amount of work. At no point I felt I had nothing to do and I liked it like that. If there was something to improve, there could have been more challenging work that I could have done to stretch me a bit more but apart from that - perfect.
I was given a lot more responsibility than I thought I would've been given as my manager thought my particular skills were invaluable to do the sort of work I was assigned to. This really helped me realise my potential.
From my placement, I have developed many skills that will benefit me when I start my job. Software and technical skills being some that I believe I have greatly improved. I've learned so much during this internship.
The Company
Full of energy, with lots of people conversing with each other and sharing ideas, it was great. I could go up to anyone in the office to ask questions if I wanted to and they would always spare a minute to make sure that my questions had been answered correctly.
Everything went off without a hitch, since from day one my supervisors had planned out the placement for me, informing me about meetings and events regularly. Very well done!
They didn't invest heavily on our development, other than the frequent advice from my supervisor. Only one training day at the start of the placement which was a little bit disappointing but I learned a lot on the job.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
They offered me a job at the end of the internship which I've accepted.
The Culture
As there were a great number of interns, it wasn't hard to socialise. Some other interns organised a celebration dinner for the rest of us and during the internship there were lots of opportunities to go out for drinks if we wanted to.
Nothing too much. It didn't cost very much to stay and occasionally go out for a drink with other interns. It was London so I was careful not to go out too frequently as even cheap drinks can add up to become something quite expensive.
The nightlife in my area was very lively. I visited a nearby pubs to cool off a bit after work and met up with some of my colleagues there. After that we usually went to a club in the area. Nothing too different to what I'm used to.
My manager advised me to take up some of the many activities in the area to help me not get stressed. He got me into a tennis club which helped me take a break from the hard work of the office. I did a lot more exercise than usual on this internship which I guess is a plus!
