The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship at Savills. It was a fantastic experience which I would recommend to anyone considering a career in property.
My colleagues worked extremely hard to make me feel valued and an important part of the team. All of the work I was assigned was worthwhile and I felt as though I contributed to significant projects.
The programme ran by Savills is very refined and professionally organised. All interns were assigned a graduate supervisor who was approachable and helpful. Additionally, although fairly short, the appraisal with the department director was helpful. Understandably everyone was fairly busy, therefore I did not always like to bother my team as much as I would have liked.
Very busy, there was always work meaningful and varied work available. It was merely a case of asking my team.
I was given a surprising amount of responsibility which ultimately improved my learning and understanding of the company's work. However, I felt as though there was always help and assistance available if I needed it.
My time at Savills was hugely beneficial. I feel as though my industry knowledge is up to scratch which will help with research projects and other work. Additionally, I gained unparalleled experience of an office environment and the way in which a property consultancy works day-to-day.
The Company
The office was far larger than those I have previously worked in and there was a definite mantra of 'work hard, play hard'. Everyone was friendly, hard working and proud to be at Savills.
Very well organised. Calenders, email addresses, meetings etc. were all set up and arranged making for a very easy to follow schedule of events. -
Colleagues were extremely approachable and offered incredibly useful advice about future careers in property and anything the APC to where you might consider working eventually. Several tests and written records indicated the company encourage you to apply for the graduate scheme, I felt better prepared for the future.
Sports and Social Club
Savills fully explained the company structure and environment and offered advice on many of the different specialisms available and how to apply for the graduate scheme. Networking events also allowed us to create relationships with current staff members.
The Culture
Savills ran a multitude of organised social events and encouraged us to have our own. There was also plenty of opportunities to meet the current graduates in a cohesive way. Colleagues made you feel incredibly welcome by offering invitations to company events.
Despite having an option to do my internship at the Cambridge office, I chose to commute into London each day. It was rather expensive, but was worthwhile for the experience. Living costs such as lunch could be extremely expensive, although many other staff members took food in.
Very lively, plenty of opportunities to go out in London after work, even on week nights!
Not so much, as I was commuting.
