The Role
PLEASE NOTE: This review was for a placement at Lloyds TSB prior to Lloyds TSB merging with HBOS to become Lloyds Banking Group. (The RateMyPlacement Team) Overall I did enjoy the role at LTSB. I had a lot of responsibility which was good and there were a lot of opportunities for training and personal development. On a day-to-day basis I was totally in control of my work which taught me to organise my time in a more efficient manner. I also liked the fact that I could make the role what I wanted. I could involved where I liked and stay out of projects that I wasn't interested in.
In my department there is a very strong team mentality and every member of staff is crucial to the workings of the team. Because of this, you do feel very valued and your hard work is always noticed.
All of the managers in my department were great leaders as well as really nice, approachable people. This made it a lot easier to ask questions when required.
As I was in control of my workload I balanced my time efficiently so that I never got bored. If there was a time when you don't have much work on, people are always willing to give you something to do!
As I mentioned, this role has a great deal of responsibility. I was responsible for creating and doing all the targeting for 6 monthly direct mail campaigns every month. These were totally my responsibility and didn't really involve many other people. However, I was completely trained before they gave me this responsibility! They didn't just drop this responsibility on me from day one.
As well as the obvious improvement on skills such as team work and presentational skills, the main skill that I have developed that will be extremely useful in my final year is the ability to be well organised! Being responsible for your workload means you have to learn how to prioritise work effectively as well as making time for ad-hoc work you may get landed with. This skill is very transferable to work at university.
The Company
Although some days the office was quite quiet on the whole all of the staff got on well, and the atmosphere was overall very friendly.
As the placement students are taken on by one manager, that manager is very involved in the whole placement scheme from beginning to end. This meant starting the job very easy and made you feel valued.
Lloyds TSB are a great company in terms of investing in your future. Whilst on placement I undertook at least 6 different courses which were always totlaly paid for and you were encouraged to go on.

I have been offered a job once I graduate but I'm not entirely sure whether I will go travelling after university. They have however told me that I will always be welcome to return.
The Culture
As Lloyds TSB took on about 15 placement students in Bristol we often met up and socialised. However this was down to us to organise.
Bristol is quite an expensive area to live in on the whole. However depending on where abouts you live the rent etc. is manageable.
Bristol is an excellent city for nightlife and as it has a large student population the atmosphere is really friendly.
On the whole there wasn't a massive opportunity for activities outside of work, but I'm sure there would be if you looked a bit harder!
