The Role
ProspectSoft is a great company with an award winning placement scheme. Lovely colleagues, varied tasks and projects, and a fun environment, all contributed to an enjoyable placement year.
ProspectSoft is like a family, so you definitely feel immediately welcome, and there is an encouraging and supportive environment. Because it is a small company you do play a vital role within the team and therefore feel valued throughout the year.
I was lucky enough to actually sit next to my manager, so I always felt like I could ask any question or discuss ideas directly with her. She was always enthusiastic, helpful and honest, which is exactly the support you need as a placement student.
There were busy times of the year, and as part of a small team, a variety of tasks need to be completed and nobody sits around doing nothing. The jobs and the workload varied on a daily basis. Naturally, some days were quieter than others.
I was lucky enough to experience a lot of responsibility in a variety of areas on my placement- I never expected to do so much in the year. My favourite projects were managing next year's placement recruitment and organising 4 of the company's biggest events, but I also had responsibility for the company's social media, and created and initiated email campaigns- some of which would go to an audience of 10,000. However, the level of responsibility was never daunting as it was offset by the support of a close-knit team.
I am going back into uni with a lot more knowledge and experience about Business and a CV that has been enhanced with a variety of skills, responsibilities and projects. Moreover, ProspectSoft are willing to help me with my dissertation which will greatly assist my research.
The Company
A fun, young team, where people are friendly and generally up for a laugh.
My interests and strengths were taken into consideration when defining my role and the general schedule and process was well set out.
Before beginning our roles in the office we had 1 months training on the software by senior members of the team, which really shows the level of investment the company makes in their placements. Following this, there were opportunities to visit exhibitions and events to enhance my learning and development during the year.
Company Parties/Events
A high percentage of placement students return to the company after graduation.
The Culture
A group would often go for drinks in Oxford and there were also BBQ's and drinks after work occasionally. There were also company socials, including a christmas party and a Black Tie Dinner.
I lived in Oxford because the offices are not in a very central location (Stokenchurch). Oxford is a great city, but not cheap! Rent was expensive and there was not the usual student deals you would expect in a University town.
Again, Stokenchurch is just a small village, but there are plenty of Clubs and Bars in Oxford.
There were occasional film nights and football, as well as the social activities mentioned above.
