The Role
Really enjoyed it, part of a fantastic team with interesting projects to work on.
Felt like the work I was doing contributed to daily progress, and that large parts of what I did would be valued and used after my internship. Was asked to cross check permanent member of staff for errors.
Always available if stuck/needed help. Often giving pointers rather than definitive instructions on what to do, a plus in my view.
Enough work to keep me busy, occasionally had to go looking/prompt for more, but always manageable.
Trusted to get on with my projects and make small decisions about them. Given responsibility to work on urgent projects and make recommendations about how to proceed with them to superiors.
Came away with a much better idea of how to work effectively in a business. Greatly improved MATLAB/programming skills. Improved CAD skills.
The Company
In my small team, very relaxed, good banter between team members. Sometimes went out for team socials, got to know everyone well.
Given it was the first placement, reasonably well organised, some of the reviews/tasks set up by HR often lacked direction and motivation behind them. Introductory period was well managed, treated like any new employee and had that training. Manager had set out list of projects suitable for me to do beforehand, after these ran out was put more onto day to day work.
Had a week of introductions, finding out about the company. Given formal CAD training and taught any other skills necessary for my work. Had the option to join a number of training courses which I didn't take up, probably would've been discouraged from taking any that were quite long and weren't relevant to my work.

Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Looking good, have not had a formal job offer (still have a couple of weeks left).
The Culture
Difficult due to slightly isolated location of work and dispersed nature of interns. Went out for team meals occasionally. Plenty of colleagues out on a Friday night.
Fairly reasonable for the South, Waitrose opening nearby likely to push rent up a bit.
Imagine it would've been good if I'd stayed in Bristol, but that's too far to drive to often for a night out, and public transport awful late at night.
A few good social/sports groups, opportunity to set one up if you wanted. Perks increased the number of things to do.
