About You
I thoroughly enjoyed the Simmons & Simmons vacation scheme.
The feedback I received for completed tasks was positive, and the lawyers for whom I had worked were appreciative of my efforts.
My designated trainee was always on hand to answer questions and offer advice. Moreover, the other lawyers with whom I worked were also friendly and approachable, and were happy to offer me help.
I am yet to enter the final year of my degree so I cannot yet say, however I feel as though I developed key commercial skills during my placement. These will undoubtedly stand me in good stead for my future career.
The Company
The scheme was well structured by HR. We were given timetables which clearly divided our time between group sessions and individual time within seats. The planned social events were also timetabled in. This structure helped me organise my time with precision.
The atmosphere was generally friendly and relaxed. During the particularly busy periods the atmosphere was one of excitement, rather than stress. Indeed this made for some truly exhilarating experiences. The informal social events in the evening helped to enhance the friendly feeling of the firm.
Lawyers devoted considerable time to assisting me, and providing feedback. The social events must have been expensive too.
The scheme provided a good insight into life as a trainee. It was very useful in allowing me to gauge the overall atmosphere within the firm.
This insight demonstrated well the blend of friendliness and 'high performance culture' that Simmons have achieved.
The scheme only affirmed my ambition to become a commercial lawyer.
Everything Else
Yes, I was paid adequately.
A number of events provided us with an opportunity to speak to lawyers from around the firm.
Really good fun. They helped bring the interns together.
Yes. I participated in the firm's football and softball teams, and spoke to trainees about other activities they are involved in.
Yes.
